How Long Does an Oil Change Take?

Regularly changing your oil is one of the essential parts of keeping your vehicle running in top condition while you’re driving around St. Simons. You might be avoiding taking your car in for service because you, like so many, are leading a busy life and are short on time, so you don’t want to spend all day at the dealership. But if you’re wondering how long does an oil change take, you’re in luck, because when you bring your vehicle into Nalley GMC, you’ll find out that it doesn’t take that long at all! Find out how long does an oil change take today with Nalley GMC, and then schedule a service appointment right now so that you can get in, and get out, in no time flat.

How Long Should an Oil Change Take If I Do It Myself?

If you’d rather perform a DIY oil change at home in Waycross, you can usually perform the process yourself without too much trouble. However, the amount of time it takes varies heavily based on your level of know-how and expertise. Definitely budget for at least an hour, but be aware that it could take longer (or shorter). You’ll also need to make sure that you have the right materials, including new oil (and the right kind of oil), a new oil filter, a new oil filter gasket, a rubber mallet, correctly-sized wrenches, a jack, and wheel blocks. If you find yourself short on time, materials, or just frustrated at the DIY process, bring your vehicle by Nalley GMC, and we’ll take care of everything!

More Oil Change Information

Here are a couple tips to keep in mind regarding oil changes:

  • The suggested intervals between oil changes have shifted over the years. Conventional wisdom used to dictate that every 3,000 miles was the proper interval, but these days vehicles can usually go 5,000 to 7,000 miles between oil changes. Some newer models can even go up to 10,000 miles before needing an oil change! Your owner’s manual should have specific information for your model’s proper interval.
  • Check out our service specials page for oil change coupons and discounts on Nalley GMC services!
  • When getting an oil change, make sure you check and see whether your vehicle takes synthetic or conventional oil – your owner’s manual should tell you. While synthetic oil is pricier, it also performs better. The type of oil won’t affect the time it takes for your oil to be changed.
