How to Take Apart Buick Key Fob

The instructions below walk you through every step, from how to open a Buick key fob to how to change out the battery in a Buick key fob. Let’s get you back to being able to lock and unlock your Buick from a far proximity in Waycross!

  1. There should be a button on top of the key fob that unlocks the internal key blade when pressed.
  2. Once you’ve got the emergency key in your hand, you can use the key blade for this next step. Use the tip of the key blade to wedge open the key fob in the small gap where the key used to be. Carefully remove the key fob battery cover.
  3. You can try to use your fingers or the tip of a flathead screwdriver to pry the old battery out — note which way the battery is facing before you remove it! In its place, insert a new CR2032 battery.
  4. Once the battery is secured in the correct position, you can place the key fob cover back on. Click the edges of the fob together, listening for the “snap” to confirm that it’s secured again.

Now you should be good to go! Test out the key fob from a close and far distance to make sure it’s working like normal again. If your key fob still won’t work, talk to us at Nalley GMC. You might need a replacement fob, and our parts department can help you get one.

How To Program a Buick Key Fob

If you ever need to reprogram your Buick key fob, simply press the Lock and Unlock buttons simultaneously while inside the vehicle, and wait for the vehicle to beep twice. When you hear two beeps, you’ll know the key fob is successfully programmed. You can repeat the process with any additional key fobs as well.
